General Meeting Minutes
November 10, 2011
The meeting was held at the Pines. At 6:00 PM President Joan reported that dinner was starting to be served and everyone sat down. President Joan offered the prayer and everyone enjoyed one of the Pines specialties.
The meeting was called to order at 6:58 PM. Lion Rocky had the joke of the day. There were no guests.
The Secretary’s report of the last meeting was given. Lion Bill moved to accept and Lion Louise seconded. Motion carried.
Lion Mike gave the Treasurer’s report as follows:

Administrative Account 4242.25
Totals Monies $18609.39
Outstanding bills include International and District dues of about $1050, fish jamboree posters about $350. Lion Rocky moved to accept and Lion Glenn seconded. Motion carried.

Committee Reports
Fish Jamboree—Lion Max will send the poster ads to the printer by early next week and by the next meeting on December 8, they should be ready. He also sent around the signup sheet for selling tickets at Snows.
Old Business
Tree planting—Lion Marla has a new idea for the tree planting project. She would like each club in the area to sponsor the planting of one tree. Louise moved and volunteered to research the purchase of an appropriate tree and plant it in an appropriate spot. Lion Glenn seconded. Motion carried.
Lion Glenn reported that Lion Jerry is recuperating in Michigan and still has a ways go for complete recovery. Lion Terry is recovering from his eye operation and will be getting some new parts shortly. Send them a card if you can.
New Business
World’s Finest Chocolate—Lion Roger Weber has donated some chocolate bars for the area clubs to do with as they wish. After some discussion, Lion Dave moved to sell them at the Fish Jamboree and use any extra at the Easter Egg Hunt. Lion Mike seconded. Motion carried.
Newsletter—Lion Pete reported that he will also send the newsletter in PDF format so everyone should be able to open them.
Loon Day—Lion Glenn said he is still the chairman Loon Day, but needs lots of help.
Brew Fest—Lion Marla will help, but can’t take it over completely for a couple of years.
Christmas Party—Lion Joan had a couple of restaurants in mind for the December meeting. Lion Glenn moved to have it at the Ding-A-Ling. Lion Rocky seconded. Motion carried.
Donations—Lion Gene discussed the Library Building Project and would like the Lions to make a donation to them. Lion Louise reported on a computer project for the Special Education Department at the school and would like the Lions to donate $800 for the purchase of a new computer. They need 4 new ones and she has funding for about 1 ½ already. She also reported for the Food Pantry and their needs for the upcoming holiday season. After some discussion Lion Pete moved to donate $500 for Thanksgiving, $500 for Christmas and $500 to the Kids project to the Food Pantry as their needs are immediate. Lion Rich seconded. Motion carried. The other donations will be referred to the Finance Committee to be acted upon forthwith.

October 13, 2011
The meeting was held at Ruggers Landing. President Joan called the troops to the tables at 6:00 PM. Lion Marla offered the prayer and President Joan led us in the Pledge to the Flag and the prime rib of pork dinner was served.
The meeting was called to order at 7:06 PM. Lion Mike had the joke of the day.

Lion Bob introduced his guest and future Lion, Bill Davies.
The Secretary’s report of the last meeting was given. Lion Dick moved to accept and Lion Bill Bayer seconded. Motion carried.

Correspondence
We received a thank you from one of our scholarship recipients, Nate Sabec; also an invite to the Boulder Junction Lioness Anniversary party; also from WI Lions Foundation regarding deer hide collection. President Joan read a correspondence regarding the installation of the water heater at the park pavilion. Lion Rich Williams donated the $224 installation fee in behalf of the Lions. Thanks Lion Rich!! We also received a pin from International due to our meeting the Lions goal for membership for last year. The pin was to go to the immediate past president, Lion Marty.
Committee Reports
Fish Jamboree—Lion Max has handed out the poster ad packets and they are due back to him by November. The Jamboree is to be held on Saturday February 18, 2012. Lion Mike reported that the Jamboree tickets will be ready tomorrow and he will get them to the members. Max also passed around a sign up sheet for selling tickets at Snows.
Brew Fest—Lion Bob reported a profit to the club of $1163.82. He also would like to hand the chairmanship over to someone who has more time so he could concentrate more on the Duck Race.
Old Business
Lion Mike reported that a business would like to use our Class A Raffle License for a gun raffle. After a brief discussion, it was decided not to participate.
Tree Project
Lion Marla noted that International has a program of planting 1 million trees in the country. She would like the club to possibly purchasing some trees to give to the school kids to plant. She will check into this project further.
Lion Marty presented the “Golden Ducky” award to Lion Bob for his work with the duck race. Congratulations Lion Bob!
New Business
Lion Louise would like some volunteers to help at the Health Fair on October 9. Be there at 8:30 to help.
Lion Glenn led a discussion on having a wood raffle. After some discussion it seemed like not enough members were in favor of selling tickets, so it was dropped at this time.
Medical Reports—Lion Bill Bayer took over CJ’s roll as Tail Twister for the evening and reported that Lion CJ is doing a little better. Lion Greg had surgery and will be getting more work done. And Lion Jerry is still in the hospital in New Jersey after has accident of about a month ago. Lion Sulo was volunteered to temporarily take Jerry’s place as the meeting place coordinator.
Induction of a New Member
President Joan inducted Bill Davies as a new member. Lion Bob is his sponsor. Tailtwister Bill wasted no time in making Lion Bill feel welcome.

The meeting was held at the pavilion. Lion Marty offered the prayer and hamburgers and sides were on the menu for tonight.

Lion Mike gave the Treasurer’s report. Outstanding bills include: a donation for use of dunk tank, thank you ads in papers, and dues. Lion Dick moved to accept and Lion Marty seconded. Motion carried.

We received a thank you to workers at the Spaghetti Feed and for our donation to the Senior Center.
Committee Reports
Loon Day—Lion Glenn reported that the format for next year will probably be about the same as this year. Some suggestions were offered for next year. Thanks to Lion Glenn for chairing this event.
Duck Race—Lion Bob reported that the race was a success. Thanks to all those who bought and sold tickets and to all those who worked at the race. After some discussion, Lion Gene moved to donate $200 to Rugger for his help at the race. Lion Marla seconded. Motion carried.
Induction of a New Member
President Joan inducted Tom Leidenheimer as a new member. Lion Rocky is his sponsor. Tailtwister CJ again was on the ball in soliciting a donation from Lion Tom.
Old Business
Lion Jerry reported that the Awards Dinner will be held at the Cranberry Inn on Wednesday, September 7. They are normally closed on Wednesdays, but will open for our private party.
Lion Glenn thanked Lion Roger for organizing the summer dinners at the pavilion. Everything went very smooth—thanks Roger!
New Business
Lion Bob reported that the Brew Fest will be held on Sunday, September 25. We need workers.
We had a brief discussion on donations for the coming year. Lion Dave will take all email requests and recommendations and submit them to the finance committee. Motion to increase our donation to Lions Camp to $1000. Seconded and carried.
Lion Rich moved to buy paint for the Fifield Lions dunk tank, paint the tank, and give them a donation of $25 for the use of the tank at the duck race. Lion Bob seconded. Motion carried.

July 14, 2011
The meeting was held at the pavilion. The members brought hors d’oeuvres, Lion Joe prepared a ham and everyone ate their fill.
The meeting was called to order at 7:00 PM. President Joan led the group in the pledge to the flag. She called for the joke of the day. Lion Terry said that he had one, but was saving it for a later date.
Introduction of Guests: Lion Glenn introduced Marla Suckow and Tom Leidenheimer as guests for the evening.
The Secretary’s report of the last meeting was given. Lion Joe moved to accept and Lion Glenn seconded. Motion carried.
Lion Mike gave the Treasurer’s report. Outstanding bills include: $1400-2000 to Sr Center, Duck Race $2500-3000, Dues $2-3 thousand throughout the year. Lion Bill Altman moved to accept and Lion Terry seconded. Motion carried.
Correspondence
We received a thank you from Katie Klopatek, a 2011 scholarship recipient, and some requests for donations. The requests will be referred to the Finance Committee for review.
Committee Reports
Spaghetti Fest—Lion Gene thanked all the Lions and spouses for their help. We made about $1717. Lion Terry moved to send the dishwasher, Pete a certificate of appreciation. Lion Hal seconded. Motion carried. Lion Gene moved to give the Sr Center $2000 for this year. Lion Marty seconded. Motion carried. He also reported that he and Joe would be giving up the chairmanship duties after this year. They will make the sauce and tickets but need someone else to organize the event. There also was some discussion on moving the feed to some place a little cooler. Lion Terry reported that they made $263 on the bar and $337 on the raffles. Thanks to Lions Gene and Joe for their chairmanships over the past many years.
Loon Day—Lion Glenn past around a worker signup sheet and urged members to respond!
Duck Race—Lion Terry reported that volunteers are needed to work and to keep selling those tickets.
Induction of a New Member
President Joan inducted Marla Suckow as a new member. She is also our new Zone Chairman. Her sponsor is Lion Glenn. Tailtwister CJ wasted no time in collecting from her!
Old Business
Lion Roger thanked Lion Joe for preparing the ham for this evening. Lion Terry reviewed the Appreciation Evening that was held on July1. The attendance was somewhat disappointing, but possibly the tornado warnings kept some people away. Businesses had been personally thanked and invited to come for a refreshment for their past efforts and donations to the Lions and the community.
New Business
Lion Hal suggested that the awards hanging on the kitchen wall are above the new sinks and will get damaged. He moved that they be relocated to the main hall area. Lion Terry reported that Lion Bob has already been requested to move them and will do so after he returns from Canada. Lion Hal amended his motion to allow Lion Bob to move them. Motion seconded and carried.
Lion Terry moved to let Lion Bob put up the new sign decal on the pavilion. Lion Mike seconded. Motion carried.
Lion Rich will deliver the certificates of appreciation to Fritz and Lion Jack for their work on our taxes.

June 9, 2011
The meeting was held at the pavilion. This was the annual steak fry night, and was enjoyed by record attendance. The hors d’oeuvres provided by members were outstanding and the steaks were delicious. Thank you Glenn for ordering and delivering!!
The meeting was called to order at 7:00 PM. President Mary led the group in the pledge to the flag. Snowbird Lion Terry has returned and blessed us with another “joke”, for which he received his usual boos and heckling.
Introduction of Guests: Brian Anderson was re-introduced and will be inducted as a member tonight.
The Secretary’s report of the last meeting was given. Lion Bill moved to accept and Lion Terry seconded. Motion carried.
Lion Mike gave the Treasurer’s report. There is an outstanding bill of up to $300 for glasses. Lion Joan moved to accept and Lion Louise seconded. Motion carried.
Correspondence
President Marty read a thank you letter for our participation in the eyeglass recycling program and we received a patch for our banner.
The Lions Eye Bank would like us to consider a donation and Lion Louise moved to donate $300 to them. Seconded by Lion Mike. Motion carried. We also had a request from the USO, and as we have already donated $200 to them, we tabled that request. We had previously donated $250 to the Library Remodeling Fund, and received a thank you from them. Also, a thank you from Betty Snyder for our donation for Memorial Day flowers at the Mercer and Manitowish Waters cemeteries, and the Vets Run on the 4th of July.
After some discussion, Lion Terry moved to send Certificates of Appreciation to Lion Jack and Fritz for completing our tax reporting obligation. Lions Mike and Roger will handle this.
Dues are due now! Pay Lion Mike.
Committee Reports
Spaghetti Fest—Lion Joe reported that we are all set for the event on July 9. Lion Gene has advance sale tickets to hand out tonight, and he reminded members that their help is greatly needed and appreciated. Lion Dave reported that they are having water pump problems and may need some help.
Loon Day—Lion Glenn reported that the preliminaries are all done and will send a worker signup sheet around next month.
Duck Race—Lion Bob has tickets for distribution and they need to be sold and returned by the July meeting. Also, workers are needed. More information at the July meeting. Also, the Appreciation Dance will be held on July 1.
Installation of Officers
The officers for 2011/2012 were installed by President Marty. Lion Hal helped and offered comments on the Lions Camp and thanked us for our help in supporting the Camp.
Induction of a New Member
President Marty and President Elect Joan inducted Brian Anderson as a member of our Lions club. Congratulations Brian and sponsor Lion Glenn!!
Old Business
Lion Roger reported that the road cleanup date is August 20, with the rain date on the 21st. Some discussion on the proposed eye glass purchase. Lion Joan will refer future requests to our Sight Committee.
Handing Over the Gavel
Lion President Marty officially handed over the presidents gavel to new Lion President Joan and officially became the Past President and Membership Chairman.
New Business
Lions President Joan called for new business and Lion Glenn reported that Lion Pete will be doing the newsletter in July and we should send any items for publication to him. Lion Terry thanked Past President Marty for an excellent two years of leadership. Congratulations Marty!! Lion Pete reported that the Associated Bank Display will be ready soon.

May 12, 2011
The meeting was held at Ruggers and everyone sat down at 6:00 PM and was served a delicious prime rib of pork dinner. Lion Marty led us in singing the before-dinner prayer and reciting the pledge to the flag. President Marty recited Lion CJ’s joke and received a round of groans for his efforts, whereas Lion Joan also gave her offering and was applauded!
Introduction of Guests: Lion Glenn introduced Brian Anderson, who will be inducted as a new member at the next meeting.

President Marty read a letter from WLF stating that we received a Community Diabetes Awareness Award through the efforts of Lion Dave. Congratulations Dave!!
Old Business
Lion Rocky reported that a new Awards Banner has been ordered and Lion Dave will make a frame for the old one and it will be on display at the pavilion.
Committee Reports
Easter Egg Hunt—Lion Pete reported that the hunt was a huge success and thanked all those who helped.
Highway Cleanup—Lion Roger said the past cleanup went very well, thanks to the good turnout of members. Also, Lion Archie is recuperating and doing fine. After some discussion it was decided to cancel the July 9 road cleanup. We will do the fall cleanup on September 10.
Spaghetti Fest—Lion Joe is getting started to get this project underway. More information will be coming at the next meeting.
Duck Race—Lion Bob reported that he is organizing an appreciation dance on July 1. He has a friend who has volunteered to provide entertainment for the evening. He also reported that we will have the float in the 4th parade and the Duck race is on schedule for the Saturday after Loon Day. Sign up sheets are available for ticket sellers for the race.

President Marty’s friend, Ike, who was at the last meeting, will become an associate member.
New Business
Lion Mike reported that that a Mercer resident is in need of some type of glasses. After some discussion Lion Mike said he will further check into the details and costs and moved to approve up to $300 for the glasses. Lion Louise seconded. Motion carried.
Also, the bank would like us to set up a Lions display promoting Lionism. Lions Roger and Pete will work on the display.

April 14, 2011
The meeting was held at Beaver’s Resort, and everyone sat down at 6:00 PM and was served their choice of entrée of pork or beef over mashed potatoes. Lion Rock offered the before dinner prayer.
At 7:00, President Marty called the meeting to order and led the club in reciting the pledge to the flag. President Marty introduced his 2 guests from Illinois—Lions Ike and Bob. They talked about their club and said their District Governor sends his regards.
The Secretary’s report of the last meeting was given. Lion Glenn moved to accept and Lion Louise seconded. Motion carried.
Lion Mike gave the Treasurer’s report. Outstanding bills: Duck raffle tickets estimated at $150-200, Easter Egg Hunt $some, gas tank rental at pavilion $30 ish. District dues were paid and were estimated at $400. Lion Roger moved to accept and Lion Glenn seconded. Motion carried.
Correspondence
Lion Marty reported that we received a Membership Award for last year. Also read a letter regarding a survey that WLF is conducting regarding the date for the open house at the camp. Consensus is that be held when the camp is in session. He also has applications for various camp sessions and some other activities at the camp. See President Marty if interested in any of these.
The Union Grove club is looking for donations for counselors’ packets for the camp.
New Business
We had a request from Ginger Robl for a donation to a camp session in Winchester this summer. Lion Louise moved to donate $100 toward that project. Lion Glenn seconded. Motion carried.
We had a request for a donation for flowers at the cemeteries in Mercer and Manitowish Waters for Memorial Day. Lion Glenn moved to donate $100 to this cause, seconded by Lion Rocky. Motion carried.
The Run for Vets again be held on the 4th of July. The monies will go to the American Legion Camp at Lake Tomahawk. Lion Mike moved to donate $150 to them, Lion Bill Bayer seconded. Motion carried.
The Library Fund Raiser is being held for the new addition. After a brief discussion, Lion Louise moved to donate $250 to that project, Lion Pete seconded. Motion carried.
Lion Louise reported that the gas tank at the pavilion needs to be moved do to its being too close to the fireworks. We will see what options are available—maybe just remove the tank and use 100 lb cylinders for the Fish Jamboree.
Lion Gene reported that the Town may not have money for further renovations at the pavilion, but they do have some room tax money that may be available to be used. He urged members to talk to or email Town Board members about their viewpoint.
Lion Pete reported on the Easter Egg Hunt. Everything seems to be in place and has quite a bit of help. It will be the Saturday before Easter, and everyone is welcome.
Lion Gene reported that the Spaghetti Fest will be the Saturday after the 4th, July 9.
The Duck Race is the Saturday after Loon Day, August 6. We need to sell those tickets.
Road cleanup dates: April 30, July 9, and September 10. All at 10 AM.
Lion Glenn reported on the election of Officers. Lion Louise moved to accept the slate of officers as presented. Lion Rocky seconded. Motion carried. The President will serve for 2 years and the others for 1 year.
Tail Twister Lion CJ had nothing for tonight.

March 10, 2011
The meeting was held at Gateway Lodge, and everyone sat down at 6 PM for dinner with all the trimmings. Lion Sulo said grace before dinner and we gave the pledge of allegiance.
Lion Marty called the meeting to order at 7:10 PM. Lion Marty read a joke or two from Lion CJ’s secret vault.
Due to the absence of the Secretary, there was no report given. The Treasurer’s report was given. Lion Sulo moved to accept and Lion Glenn seconded. Motion carried.
Correspondence
Lion Marty discussed the 27-C2 convention to be held April 15 and 16. So far, Lions Marty, Glenn, Dave and Max indicated that they will attend. We discussed the Governor’s raffle. Lion Gene moved to buy the raffle tickets, seconded by Lion Rocky. Motion carried.
Lion Marty read a thank you letter from WLC for the recycled glasses. Included was another patch for our banner. Lion Rocky discussed the need for a larger banner for our awards. He has the purple felt and the gold trim and is waiting for the Lions emblem to finish the project.
Lion Marty received a call from the Hurley Lions Club. They meet the first Wednesday of every month. All Lions clubs are invited to attend the following two meetings at the Hurley Inn. Social hour starts at 5 PM. The April meeting will have 3 district governors there. At the May meeting, a spokesman from the mining company will be there to discuss the new mine.

Fish Jamboree—Lion Max gave a summary of the event. He thanked all the Lions that participated, from selling poster ads, collecting raffles and working at the event. He gave special thanks to all those who donated products to make the event successful:

Lion Glenn presented the slate of nominees for the 2011-2012 officers and asked if there were any changes. There were none.

Lion Glenn moved that the election of officers be moved up to June, so the snowbird Lions would be present. Seconded by Lion CJ. Motion carried.
Lion Sulo brought before the club to get a tax exempt number for Walmart. Lion Mike will take care of that.

January 13, 2011
The meeting was held at Tom’s Country Café, and everyone sat down at 6:00 PM and was served a delicious pork dinner with all the trimmings. Lion Mike offered the before dinner prayer and we recited the Pledge to the flag and then partook of the meal.
At 6:30, the jokes were started by Lion Jerry. Some mention was made of calling Lion Terry for an upgrade in joke quality, but that was quickly shot down as a lost cause. Lion CJ also entertained the group with his usual monthly gem.
After dinner, the meeting was called back to order. The Secretary’s report of the November meeting was given. Lion CJ moved to accept and Lion Bill Beyer seconded. Motion carried.
Lion Mike gave the Treasurer’s report.
Outstanding bills: Dues for 27C2 estimated at $300 and International estimated at $700. Fish Jamboree expenses estimated to be $700-1500. Lion Mike added that these expenses are just “ball park “ figures and a more accurate accounting can be had when the bills come due. Lion Joan moved to accept and Lion Rocky seconded. Motion carried.

Easter Egg Hunt—Lion Pete is this year’s chairman, but will probably need some direction, as this is his first time. It was suggested to get some high schoolers to help and maybe some grand parents will help as well.
Lion Sulo is planning the Bike Rodeo for the Spring.

Lion Bill Beyer gave a summary of his lifetime experiences.
Lion CJ took a little of his own time to urge the group to increase our support for the USO. After a very brief discussion, Lion Glenn moved to increase our donation to $200. Lion Bill B seconded. Motion carried.

November 11, 2010
The Meeting was held at Pine Trees Hideaway, and everyone gathered around the table at 6:00 PM. Lion Mike offered the before dinner prayer and everyone enjoyed the lasagna dinner prepared by Chef Irene.
At 6:55 PM President Marty called the meeting to order and led the group in the pledge to the flag. He then read Lion CJ’s joke and made it through with some moans and groans from fellow Lions.
The Secretary’s report of the October meeting was given. Lion CJ moved to accept and Lion Archie seconded. Motion carried. The Secretary read notes of the last board meeting.

Outstanding bills: Dues for 27C2--$300-400, International--$600-700, Posters--$350, plus there will be some expenses for the Fish Jamboree.

Our banner is filling up with awards and patches and we are in need of a larger one. Lion Rocky will talk to his wife about making a new one.
President Marty reported on the board meeting:
The Pavilion sewer and water may cost more than originally estimated but the final cost is being reviewed and updated and will probably be a 2 phased project, with the first phase completed this year and the 2nd phase completed next year.
Food Pantry—The board recommended donating $300 to the Pantry and $100 to the Toys for All program. Lion Glenn moved to do so, Lion Rocky seconded. Motion carried.
BBQ—After some discussion, Lion Mike moved to eliminate the BBQ as one of our projects. Lion Roger seconded. Motion carried.
Duck Race—Will be held on August 6, 2011. We have rented the ducks for $200-300, and we will sell raffle tickets with numbers corresponding to numbers on ducks.
Sunshine Fund—Lion Roger reported on members who are ailing and requested that members contact him about members who are ill.
Wood Raffle—We will leave it up to the board to decide if and when we should have this raffle.
Locks—Lion Glenn has purchased new locks for the cabinets at the pavilion and members who want to borrow any thing from them must see Lions Rocky or Marty.
School Sign—We donated $205 for new lettering for the gym wall at school.

General Meeting Minutes
October 14, 2010
At 6:00 PM Lions President Marty called the Mercer Lions to order at the Blue Bayou Inn. Lion Jerry gave the prayer and President Marty led the Pledge to the Flag. Dinner was served and enjoyed by all.
President Marty called the meeting back to order and gave Lion CJ’s joke to the crowd. Both received a round of applause for their efforts.
The Secretary’s report of the August meeting was given. It was moved and seconded to approve. Motion carried.
Lion Mike gave the Treasurer’s report.
Outstanding bills include district dues of $300-400 and International dues of $600-700. Lion Bill B moved to accept. Lion Joan seconded. Motion carried.

Committee Reports
Pavilion—Lion Bob reported that we are pretty well done with the Lions part of the improvements. The water and sewer are yet to be installed. There is some question as to what that cost will be. We will discuss it at the board meeting.
60th Anniversary—The party ended up costing the club about $110. A good time was had by all. Thanks to all who had any part in the event.
Brewfest—We cleared a little less than last year, but successful, nonetheless. Thanks to all who donated and helped.
BBQ—The income for the event was split between the Lions and Lioness.
Fish Jamboree—Lion Max reported that the contest would be on February 19 at the pavilion. The prizes will include the 50-50 raffle and some things that local business have donated. There will be no out of pocket expenses for prizes this time. Max has packets for the members to use to sell poster ads to business places and they should be returned at the November meeting.
Lion Louise reported that the first responder bags are in, have been distributed and are in service.
New Business
Lion Roger took orders for t-shirts and will check into long sleeve shirts.
Lion Louise reported that the Spaghetti Feed for the Food Pantry will be this Saturday, and would like the Lions to again consider a donation for the Thanksgiving baskets. She will bring it up at the board meeting.
Duck Race—Chairman Lion Bob gave some details of the event. It will be held the Saturday after Loon Day, August 6, on the Turtle River. The finish line will be near Rugger’s.
School Sign—Lion Marty was (again) called into the Principal’s office at the high school. This time the cost new letters for the gym wall were discussed with Mr. Erik Torkelson. We will discuss this further at the board meeting.
Tail Twister Time—Lion Archie gave a summary of his life in and around the area and Lion CJ reported on his trip to Washington DC to visit the WWII National Memorial. He would like the Lions to consider making a donation to the Honor Flight. We will discuss further at the board meeting.

August 12, 2010
At 6:00 PM Lions President Marty called the Mercer Lions to order. He announced that we would be having appetizers and or hors d’oeuvres, and then a quick meeting and then adjourn.
Lions CJ and Sulo each shared some entertainment with the club in the form of a joke.
Lion Bob introduced his guest, Gary, Lion Glenn introduced Pete, and Lion Rich introduced Jim. They are potential new members.
The Secretary’s report of the July meeting was given. Lion Rich moved to accept. Lion Joe seconded. Motion carried.
Lion Mike gave the Treasurer’s report. Lion Rocky moved to accept. Lion CJ seconded. Motion carried.
Correspondence
President Marty read a card from the Mercer Senior Center, thanking us for our donation to them. He also read a letter from the Bill Brundage family, who rented the pavilion for their family picnic. They were very impressed by the improvements to the pavilion and the park. Also from Lions International, who sent us a patch for our banner, for our work on the October Membership Campaign.
Committee Reports
Pavilion—Chairman Bill reported that the floor and stonework is completed, but the future sewer and water work may be delayed until next year, due to the lack of funds. Chairman Bob reported that he had just a couple of things to do yet on the inside and thanked all those who helped on the project.
After a brief discussion, Lion Joe moved to buy a 30” Lions sign for the front of the pavilion. Lion Rich seconded. Motion carried.
Loon Day—Chairman Glenn reported a nice net profit, and thanked all those who helped. The Crew was a little sparse in the afternoon, but they made it through OK. He thanked all those who helped set up on Tuesday evening and those who helped on Wednesday. There was a brief discussion on the menu for next year.
BBQ—Chairman Rich passed out a worker signup sheet for the 21st.
60th Anniversary—President Marty reviewed some of the activities that will be taking place.

New Business—Lion Dave reported that his wife is on the 1st Responders crew and that they need 2 Kids Pacs at $209 each. After a brief discussion, Lion Bill Altman moved to purchase the 2 Pacs for a total of $418. Lion Joe seconded. Motion carried.
Lion Gene moved that all the Arizona snowbirds be here for the Fish Jamboree in February. Lion Glenn seconded. After a brief discussion, President Marty ruled that the motion was out of order.

General Meeting Minutes
July 8, 2010
At 6:00 PM Lions President Marty called the Mercer Lions to order. Lion Mike offered the prayer and the group ate their fill of ham prepared by President Marty and other fixing’s brought by the members.
President Marty called the meeting to order again and at 6:45 PM he led the Lions in the Pledge to the Flag.
Lion Terry was called upon for a joke, but he had to think for a minute and he lost his chance to Lion Rich, who received groans for his efforts. Lion Terry got reorganized and offered his joke and received more groans from the crowd. Lion CJ recited 2 more and was given a round of applause for his efforts. Lion Bob introduced his brother in law as his guest.
The Secretary’s report of the June meeting was given. Lion Rich moved to accept. Lion Joe seconded. Motion carried.
Lion Mike gave the Treasurer’s report.
A couple of bills were noted: The donation to the Senior Center, and 2010-11 dues. Lion Joan moved to accept and Lion CJ seconded. Motion carried.

Pavilion—Chairman Bob reported that the floor is done and the siding is stained and put up. He thanked all those many people who helped. The siding needs a second coat of stain and he will call members for help. He reported that Lion Jerry suggested that the tables that belong in the pavilion be pained in Lions colors. Lion Jerry will be in charge.
Spaghetti Fest—Lion Joe reported that 180 dinners were served, we ran out of food, and it was a huge success. There was a good turnout and he thanked everyone who helped. He then moved to turn over the profits to the Sr Center. Lion Gene seconded. Motion carried. It was suggested to send Randy Snow a Certificate of Appreciation for allowing us to sell tickets in the store and for advertising the event on his store radio promotion.
4th of July—Lion Bob reported that all the float participants had a good time and it went well.
Loon Day—Lion Glenn gave an update and sent around a worker signup sheet.
BBQ—Lion Rich urged everybody to make up for lost sales due to the rain on the 4th by selling more tickets.

June 10, 2010
At 6:00 PM Lions President Marty flopped his steak on the grill and everyone else followed suit and cooked theirs to perfection and enjoyed their rib eye and the side dishes provided by the members. At 7:00 PM the meeting was called to order. President Marty lead the pledge to the flag.
Lion Terry got the ball rolling with his first joke of the summer. He received a round of applause for a surprisingly cute joke! Not to be outdone, Lion CJ relayed his joke to the crowd and likewise received a round of applause for his efforts. The members then introduced their guests for the evening.

President Marty read an article from several years ago regarding Lion Joes Melvin Jones award. He also received a bill from Range Tax and Accounting service for filling out our tax forms. The bill was for $950 but also included was a discount of $950 mainly on account of Lion Jack Baxter’s work on the forms.

Pavilion—Chairman Bill Altman reported that the sewer and water was proceeding as well as the siding. Lion Bob reported that the work on the floor will start next Monday and some workers are needed for both the siding and the floor.

Lion Terry suggested that we have the June and July meetings at the pavilion and have the others at a restaurant/club due to the fact that they are constantly donating to our causes. At 6:00 PM President Marty gathered the Lions together in the dining room at Rugger’s. Lion Rocky offered the prayer, followed by the Pledge to the Flag. Dinner was served, and everyone enjoyed their salad, roasted pork loin, potato, garlic toast, and dessert. At 7:00 PM President Marty called the meeting to order and all the Lions thanked Rugger and crew for their very, very delicious meal.

Misc Reports
We will have induction on new officers at the next meeting. Lion President Marty reported on the District Convention recently held in Hurley. Lion Roger reported that the first road cleanup was well attended and our road section was cleaned in record time. Lion Roger also can order Lions shirts—see him for your order. Lion Glenn reported that there will be a new officers training meeting in LDF on May 22 from 9-11:30. Everyone is invited and encouraged to attend.

Lion Bill Altman reported on the pavilion renovation. Lion Bob will be the chairman and get a price quote for materials needed for the floor. Lion Gene recommended that the Town put in sewer and water at the pavilion. There was an extended discussion on the pros and cons. Lion Sulo moved that the Lions Club send a letter to the Town Board and the Town Chairman requesting that sewer and water be installed at the pavilion. Seconded by Lion Joe. There was more discussion, and a vote taken on the motion. Yes—12, No—7. Motion carried.

General Meeting Minutes
April 8, 2010
At 6:00 PM President Marty gathered the Lions together in the dining room at Johnny’s in downtown Mercer. Lion Marty offered the prayer and called the meeting to order (sort of). We went through several items of correspondence as well as the salad and also had a special guest, Ann Klemm, Principal of the Mercer School system. She thanked the Lions for providing and sponsoring the Easter Egg Hunt at the school last Saturday. It was well attended and greatly appreciated by the kids and parents, as well as the school personnel. Dinner was then served and everyone thoroughly enjoyed the chicken or pork entrees.
The Secretary’s report of the March meeting was given. Lion Bill moved to accept. Lion Glenn seconded. Motion carried.
Lion Mike gave the Treasurer’s report. There are no outstanding bills at this time.

Event Reports: Lion Glenn reported for Chairmen Gene and Chuck. They thanked all those who helped before, during and after the event.
The Finance committee reported that they passed the budget for the upcoming year—basically the same types of donations as this year, but possibly the amounts would be adjusted as necessary to reflect the amount of money taken in.
Chairman Roger reported for the Sunshine Committee and the health of some of the members
Lion Glenn passed out a sheet of nominees for officers and committee chairpersons for next year. Lion Bill moved to accept the slate of nominees as presented by the nominating committee. Lion CJ seconded. Motion carried. It was noted that we still need several co-chairpersons or chairpersons for some of the committees and volunteers are welcome.
Lion Bill Altman reported for the Pavilion Committee. They are thinking about painting the floor and siding the building. He will keep in touch with Dave Gentile, Park Board President, about problems involved. Lion Bill reported that he volunteered the Lions Club for helping with the projects and several ideas and suggestions were discussed.

New Business—We thanked Kyle and Terry for preparing and serving the meal for this evening. Some other ideas for fundraisers were discussed. President Marty reported that Lion John suggested a smelt fry to raise money for the Senior Center and volunteered to chair the event if we decided to have it.
The duck race and/or turtle race was also brought up, as well as selling produce/flowers during the summer. We were reminded that we sometimes step on business toes when we have events of this type and should try to be somewhat careful.
Chairman Roger reported that the Road Cleanup dates are May 1, June 26 and August 28. Rain dates will be the following Saturday. We will meet at 9:00 AM at the Chamber Building.

March 11th, 2010
The meeting was called to order by President Marty Koleno at 6:30 p.m.
Salute to the flag was given.
No Secretary’s report was given due to Lion Bill’s absence. Minutes were taken by Lion Chuck.
Treasurer’s Report was given. Mo: Glenn Sec: Gene, to accept the financial report as presented. Carried.
Lion Glenn gave the financial report on the Fishing Jamboree. Net profit was $3,948.72, which was $1,000 over last year. He read a letter from Lion Randy thanking everyone who worked in any way on the Jamboree.
President Marty inducted Bill Laur into the club, with Lion Dave Minisan as his sponsor.
Correspondence: (1) The Lions camp schedule was received. (2) Diabetes Alert Day is March 23. (3) Tom Waby from the Ashland Lions wants to know if we have any pictures of deceased members for the necrology ceremony to be held at the District Convention. (4)DG Shirley Lemke informed the club that District Treasurer Dean Klemm is in poor health, and has been replaced as the District Treasurer. (5) District Convention is to be held April 16th and 17th in Hurley, and a head count was taken on those expecting to attend.
New Business: (1) Pres. Marty read the list of Club Officers and Committee Chairman for 2010-11. As he went through them, Lion Glenn read a letter from Lion Randy that he would no longer be able to Chair the Jamboree due to business commitments. Lion Max agreed to Chair this event. (2) Lion Al asked if anyone was interested in attending a first aid class to be held in Eagle River on Saturday March 20th. (3) Lion Gene gave an update on the Easter Egg Hunt to be held on April 3rd. (4) Pres. Marty reminded Committee Chairman’s to make sure raffle forms are filled out. (5) Lion Dave informed the members about the Library Kick-Off, to be held on April 17th, to raise funds for the library addition. Mo: Mike Sec: John, to contribute $150.00 to the Library. Carried. (6) Lion Sulo brought up the idea of having a bicycle rodeo for kids 4th grade and under. He volunteered to Chair the event that would probably be started in 2011. (7) Lion Gene informed the club that we had raised and donated over $5,000 to the Mercer Senior Club in the past 5 years by hosting the Spaghetti Dinner. This lead to discussion about having another Spaghetti Dinner, Corned Beef Dinner, Co-op an effort with other clubs, etc. and donating funds to improve the Senior Center. Pres. Marty asked what the members consensus was about contributing funds to improve the building. The response was positive. Several members also expressed an interest in participating in the meals on wheels program. (8) Pres. Marty informed the club that the Boulder Lion’s are having a Spaghetti Dinner on March 27th at their Community Center.
Any Other Matters: (1) Lion CJ inquired about the Duck Float. Sounds like next year. (2) Lions Glenn and Dave brought up the idea of selling hot dogs and bratwurst in front on Snow’s on Saturdays during the summer, with the proceeds being split between several of our concerns. This led to discussion about funding the Administrative account.

January 14, 2010
At 6:00 PM President Marty gathered the Lions together in the dining room at the Hideaway for a lasagna dinner. After the prayer and Pledge to the flag, the members enjoyed themselves once again at the dinner tables.
At 6:45 PM President Marty called the meeting to order. The Secretary had not arrived yet, so the Treasurer’s report was given. Lion Rocky moved to accept. Seconded by Lion John Sendra. Motion carried.
Correspondence: We received thank you notes from Karen Laur of the Mercer Food Pantry for our $600 donation and from the Lions Camp in the memory of Bud Hyland. We also had a request for a donation to the Lions Pride Campaign. Lion Jerry moved to deny the request due to the duplication of services. Seconded by Lion Glenn. Motion carried.
The Secretary’s report of the November meeting was given at this time. Lion CJ moved to accept. Lion John seconded. Motion carried.
President Marty read a request from the Canine Companions for Independence organization, asking for a donation. Lion Chuck moved to deny the request until further information was obtained. Lion Glenn seconded. After a brief discussion, Lion Chuck moved to amend his motion to table the request. The amendment and the motion was carried.

Introduction of Guests: Lion Mike introduced his guest Hank Joustra.
Induction of New Member: President Marty introduced and led the induction ceremony of Al Schmitz, who is now the newest Mercer Lion to roar through the countryside. Congratulations Lion Al!!
President Marty awarded Lion Archie Johnson for sponsoring two new members for the Club. Congratulations Lion Archie!!
Committee Reports:
Membership Committee—Chairman Glenn informed the club that we have 2 more potential new members that hopefully will be inducted at next meeting. He also said that the committee would start calling spouses of Lions and Lioness for potential membership in the Lions. They will also have a Lions indoctrination meeting on January 20 at 1:00 PM. All are welcome to attend. They will work on other things as well.
Fish Jamboree—Lion Randy updated the members on the progress and sent around a work sheet for members to fill in times that they can be there. Lion Chuck reported to the group that Lion Mike Chamberlain did a lot of work on the poster and ads in addition to Lions Randy and Roger, but that neglected to include him in the newsletter.

New Business: Lion Gene volunteered to be the Easter Egg Chairman and will try to get an assistant. There were other members who will be available to help at the upcoming event.

At 6:00 PM President Marty gathered the Lions to the tables for the dinner provided by the crew at Johnny’s. Lion Chuck offered the prayer and Lion Marty led the group in the Pledge to the Flag. President Marty called for the Joke of the Meeting and Lion Chuck responded valiantly. Dinner was served and everyone ate their fill of their entrée selection for the evening.

Committee Reports:
Membership Committee—Chairman Glenn turned the report over to Lion Joan, who reviewed the Committee’s work so far. They have formulated a letter that will be sent or delivered to businesses around the area that promote Lionism. Some revisions were suggested and they have some other ideas as well.
Diabetes Awareness—Chairman Dave reported that there would be a Health Fair at the Community Center on November 18, from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM. Various booths will be set up and various health screening test will be provided free of charge. Everyone is encouraged to partake in this event.
The Crew of Johnny’s was gathered together and the Lions gave them a rousing round of applause for their dinner tonight.
Events Reports: Fish Jamboree Chairman Randy reported on “happenings” so far. February 20, 2010 is the date of the Jamboree and the ads should be in by the next meeting. Mike has tickets to pass out to the membership tonight.
Tail Twister Get to Know Your Fellow Lions: Chairman CJ called on Lion Mike to tell his life’s story!
Old Business: Lion Louise inquired as to whether the wives are invited to the December meeting. The consensus of opinion was that the Lions wanted to invite their spouse/guest to the meeting at the Ding-A-Ling.
Lion Chuck reminded the group that the 60th Anniversary of the Mercer Lions would be celebrated at the September 2010 meeting at Club 51. It will be a special event and several ideas are being developed.
New Business: Lion Glenn reported that the Food Pantry is providing a goodly amount of food baskets for the upcoming Thanksgiving and Christmas seasons and are in need of money. He moved that the Lions donate $600 to the Pantry. Motion seconded and unanimously carried.

We got information from Lion Greg’s brother about shirt prices, and Lion Roger will get information from Handsome Prints and the Warehouse. We also received a letter from a nurse at Howard Young requesting help for a young lady for diabetes treatment. The consensus of opinion was that we should keep our donations as local as possible, but individuals are encouraged to donate on their own if so motivated.
Committee Reports:
Lion Sulo reported for the Membership Committee that they have been active in contacting various business people and asking for their support in Lions projects. They have been working to get new members from the area and received a round of applause for their efforts so far!
President Marty read the list of awards from the last year that were announced at the last meeting.
Event Reports:
Lion Bob reported that the Brewfest went well. We had 91participants compared to 60 last year and had a nice profit. Congratulations to Lions Bob and Terry for their hard work in coordinating this event!
Fish Jamboree Chairman Randy will have the ad packets out to the members shortly, so they can start selling poster ads.
President Koleno reported on the last Board Meeting that no big changes were decided upon and we probably will have a Duck Race contest, some time next year.

Lion CJ said as Tail Twister, he was initiating a new program—Get To Know Your Fellow Lions. At each meeting, one lion would tell the others about himself, and Lion Marty was the first to divulge all there was to know about himself. Verrrry Interesting!!!
Lion Dave gave a brief report on the Food Pantry and announced they will be having spaghetti feed on October 17 at the Community Building. The cost of the tickets is $5.00 and all are urged to attend.

Awards Banquet
September 10, 2009
The Mercer Lions and their guests “took to the tables” at Club 51 at 6:00 PM. President Marty introduced District Governor Shirley Lemke and her husband Dave from Medford and she offered the prayer for the evening. Everyone had their fill of the salad bar, roast beef, turkey, mashed potatoes, green beans, etc, etc, and etc, along with dessert. Very delicious!!! Thank You Club 51.
Sometime shortly after 7:00 PM, President Marty called the meeting to order and had a surprisingly good joke to relate and received a rousing round of applause for his efforts.
Lion Terry moved to dispense with both the Secretary and Treasurer’s reports. Lion Bob seconded. Motion carried.
Lion-to-be Louise Minisan gave a report on the glaucoma screening effort being undertaken.
The club was encouraged to attend the Brewfest/Packer/Bears game this Sunday at the Wolf’s Den.
Past President Glenn announced his award winners for the past year. It was quite an impressive and long list.
District Governor Shirley inducted new members Louise Minisan and Max Ackerman into the Mercer Lions Club and wished them and the other Lions well and good luck in the upcoming year.
Long time Mercer resident Lion Wayne Vaughn, now of Waunakee, WI, relayed to the group some of his early life experiences in Mercer.
Lion Marty declared that the meeting was over about 8:15 PM.

General Meeting Minutes
August 13th, 2009
Meeting was called to order by President Koleno at 6:40 p.m.
C.J. won the joke telling contest with his South Dakota cow joke.
The Treasurer’s report was given. Mo: Glenn, Sec: Bill Altman, to approve the Treasurer’s report as presented. Carried.
President Koleno inducted new member Ken Henkel, of whom he is also the sponsor. Ken gave the members some background information, and in turn, received a round of applause for joining our club.
Correspondence: Received a patch from the Eye Bank for our banner, and they thanked us for our support. There was an inquiry in regards to our address not being on the web site. This brought about a discussion as to who can make changes to the site. Ken thought that Lion Jerry, having developed the site, would be the only one authorized to make changes.
The next road clean-up will be August 29th, 10 a.m., meet at the Chamber.
Pavilion Report: Lion Bob thanked all those that contributed to the project, as there were over 300 man hours put in, and over $3,000 dollars in materials. He thanked Lynn Gustavson for the color scheme.
The Club members gave a big round of applause to Bob and Rich for the all the work that they put into this project.
Awards Night: This will be held on September 10th, at Club 51.
Flea Market: Lion Dave said everything is fine.
Loon Day: Lion Glenn thanked everyone that helped out. We made over $1,200, and everything went pretty good. Lion Glenn received a big round applause for his efforts. Lion Chuck read a version of “Twas the night before Loon Day”, and dedicated it to Lion Jerry Alexander.
Brewfest: Lion Bob says that it is all set up for the Wolf’s Den, on Sepember 13th, and Lion Gene had printed tickets, and they were handed out. Lion Terry urged all those in attendance to attend.
Barbecue: Lion Rich had it all under control, but could use some help clearing tables etc., and at the end for clean-up.
Board of Directors: Will meet at Lion Terry’s, on August 27th, at 5 p.m.
Old Business: Lion Terry wanted to know if anyone had seen the markers for writing on the bar price sign.
New Business: Jerry Lane with a couple of other Lions, will hold a bake sale at the Post Office on August 22nd, starting at 9 a.m. Bring something or buy something.
Membership Committee: Lion Glenn went over the changes they are making in taking in new members. The committee consists of Glenn, Randy, Sulo, and Joan.
Publicity: President Marty wants to see pictures of all events and good deeds in the paper.
